BFO MusicReach
BFO MusicReach is the Boston Festival Orchestra’s flagship initiative for education and community engagement, dedicated to enriching the lives of underserved children, teens, and families through a wide range of accessible programs such as music education workshops and free community events at a wide range of public spaces. At the heart of this initiative are deep partnerships with local nonprofits, allowing us to bring the transformative power of music to those who need it most. Whether through hands-on learning experiences, inspiring performances, or collaborative projects, BFO MusicReach fosters meaningful connections between artists and the community, ensuring that music remains a vibrant and inclusive force throughout Greater Boston.
The BFO partners with Horizons for Homeless Children, bringing BFO teaching artists on-site to lead music workshops for children aged 3-5. Workshops explore self-expression through music and creativity, including activities such as improvisation, dancing, and music notation activities.
The BFO is excited to collaborate with the Kwong Kow Chinese School in Chinatown to bring classical music to local children through fun musical activities, special concerts, and music presentations for children in grades 4 through 8 grade.
The BFO loves performing free community concerts for our Cambridge community with help from our friends at the Cambridge Public Library. These events are designed for families, library goers, and anyone interested in music!
The BFO served as Ensemble-in-Residence at the New England Conservatory's 2024 and 2025 Summer Orchestra Institute! This collaboration featured BFO musicians working with students as coaches, teachers, and mentors, as well as a series of concerts led by BFO conductor Alyssa Wang.
